Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA Notes February 22nd 2010

Intermediate:

Our Intermediate team lost out to Enniscrone last weekend in the Benson Cup on a score line of 1.10 to 0.8. Team and scorers: F Brennan, W Kivlehan, S Gorman, Cian Gorman, S Davey, C Connolly, C O’Dowd, S O'Brien, B Coleman(0-1), M Conlon, D Doherty, K Doddy, K Duffy(0-1), K Finan(0-6), O Lee. Subs used: M Connolly, Conor Gorman. Understandably, this was a somewhat ring rusty performance for the first outing of the season. It was very encouraging to see the new, younger players acquit themselves so well on their senior debuts. Next weekend the team play Tourlestrane in round two of the Benson Cup on Sunday 28th February at 2.30 in Tourlestrane.

Second Team:

As a result of growing player numbers in our club, we have this year entered a second team into competition at senior level. The team will compete in division five of the league which commences in May. We will also play in the Junior B championship which takes place next August. This provides a great opportunity for many players to get game time throughout the year and is proof of the strength of the club at present. It may even prompt a few greats to prolong retirement or even return from absence!!

Minor:

Our Minor team are due to play round two of the league against Easkey next Sunday February 28th at 11am in Easkey.

Scór:

The Scór Sinsear County finals will take place this year on Saturday March 6th at 7pm in Gurteen. This year our club aims to reignite the interest and participation in this great cultural event. Anyone interested in getting involved in categories such as music, quiz time, drama etc should contact cultural officer Hillary Brennan on 087 9499627 in the coming week.

U-8/U-10:

Coaching sessions continue on Saturday mornings from 10am till 11am in St. Nathy’s Hall. There are almost forty girls and boys currently attending. Great credit goes to all the coaches involved. Any parents interested in bringing their children along can do so on the morning. Alternatively, contact Patricia Gorman, Micheál Gorman, John Marren or Eugene Henry to register the child.

Park Works:

Considerable improvements continue at Nace O’Dowd Park this past week with new road side fencing and a new entrance being constructed. This is not solely in the interest of aesthetics as this is very necessary work with regard to safety for all users of the facility which lies along an extremely busy national route. All users are reminded that both playing pitched remain closed as a result of critical surface maintenance and repair works. Continued cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Vodafone:

We continue our appeal to all Vodafone customers to support their club by signing up to the Vodafone offer on www.supportyourgaaclub.ie or visit www.coolaneymullinabreena.com and follow the link. Alternatively, text your name to Shane O’Brien on 086 3097483 or Ollie Lee on 087 7981827. Thanks to all who have signed up to date. We are the third best supported club in Ireland at present and our aim is to reach number one.

Lotto:

Lotto membership tickets for 2010 are now available and once again we appeal to all club members to renew their membership for the New Year. Membership is Eur100 for the year and this includes entry into the monthly lotto draws plus the Christmas bonus draw. The current jackpot stands at Eur8800 and monthly prizes of Eur200 are also drawn. This is the club’s principal fundraiser for the year and we appeal to all club supporters to sign up by contacting any club member or on the club website. Sellers are asked to return Lotto tickets this week. This is imperative as the first draw of the year is now due.

New Arrival:

Congratulations to Padraig and Debbie McHugh on the recent arrival of a baby girl to the family. Congrats also to the proud grandparents.
