Our Senior Players had another tough defeat in Bunninadden Park against last year’s County finalists. Coolaney/Mullinabreena played well and with great heart never letting up, unfortunately where not able to get over the line.
Our team started well and held a short lead to the first water break with Gavin Gorman converting 2 frees both Gavin and Niall O’Dowd getting points from play. Coolera/Strandhill Enda Lennon and Barry O’ Mahoney scores brought their team level with Coolaney/Mullinabreena with 4 points each.
After the quick break Coolera/Strandhill started to pull away with a point from a free and then a strong goal from Leo Doherty. With 7 minutes left of the first half Gavin Gorman scored another free bringing Coolaney/Mullinabreena to 0-05, Coolera Strandhill to 1-05. Coolera responded with two more points form play. Gavin Gorman converted a free to bring Coolaney/Mullinabreena to 4 point deficit. First half was a very intense game with Nathan Mullen receiving a red card in the last 5 minutes.
Coolera/Strandhill opened the second half with a point from play by Barry O’Mahoney, Coolaney/Mullinabreena responded well with a point from Niall Connolly and converted free from Shane O’Brien. Kieran Gorman came in to the game replacing Antony Walsh and Shane Gormley replaced Conor McCormack. There was a further three points from Coolera/Strandhill and 2 points by Coolaney/Mullinabreenas Shane O’Brien, one which was a result of a missed goal chance, gave a score line at the water break of Coolaney/Mullinabreena 0-10 1-12 Coolera/Strandhill
Our team continued to fight hard; the badly needed goal did not happen for our side despite introducing Kieran Finan and leaving Gavin Gorman in full forward. Coolaney/Mullinabreena gained another 3 points in the last 15 minutes with no score from Coolera/Strandhill leaving a final score of:

This now leads us into the relegation part of the Championship with our next match on 29 Aug v Geevagh in Corran Park. Our panel will not focus on the learning’s from this match and prepare for the last two matches.
