Our Club and community were rocked to the core this weekend with the shocking news of the sudden death of 16yr old Eoin Mulkeen, Achonry following a tragic accident. A profound sadness is prevalent in our area and well beyond, leaving our communities in a state of total numbness and struggling to comprehend the scale of this as we remain incredulous on hearing the news.

In his short but fulfilled years, Eoin epitomized the definition of the word dedication. On a sporting front, his commitment to the cause of Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA over the years was nothing short of exceptional. We can all recall with fondness his superb goal at Nace O’Dowd Park in 2020 for his U-16 team that went on to claim a championship title. His diligence and attitude were unparalleled and he trained as recently as Friday evening with his usual earnestness and always with a smile. His love for all sports was shared with his beloved and hugely devoted Dad, Shane as they travelled to enjoy many a big occasion together.

Eoin was hugely talented academically yet humble and was recognized amongst his school peers with admiration as the Quiz King. He claimed another prize on Friday last before the transition year classmates broke up for the summer. He was the ‘model’ student in every sense of the word.

Eoin’s team-mates, their parents, along with club coaches and officers held a memorial prayer service earlier this evening (Sunday) at Nace O’Dowd Park to pay tribute to him and stand in solidarity with the family at this most difficult time. Fr Peter Gallagher offered the prayers.

We extend our sincere sympathy to Eoin’s heartbroken parents, Shane and Ann Marie and his little sister Kate along with his extended family and friends. No words can even begin to represent your grief right now. We all stand united in our support for you and hope to offer you some little crutch in the depths of your mourning.
