Coolaney Mullinabreena GAA Club Climb EVEREST Challenge for Organ Donation Awareness took place on Saturday and was hugely successful raising over €4,000 for both Organ Donation Ireland and the Irish Kidney Association.

A panel of players – Senior, Junior & Minors, Family members of players, and Club Members took on the challenge in their designated pods over a 12-hour period with teams of 3/4 climbing the Knocknashee twice within an hour to reach a goal of a total of 72 laps with is the height of Mount Everest, while adhering to COVID 19 restrictions.

Thankfully the weather was glorious and this helped create a slightly competitive edge to the challenge, with some participants completing 3 to 4 rounds of Knocknashee within the hour. We do have to mention that the record was set by our Senior Captain Enda Kivlehan and Junior Captain Alan Duggan who achieved the quickest lap time of ten minutes and 5 laps in the hour. Other groups completing it in respectable times of 11 to 17 minutes per lap, which is quite an achievement with the steep climb and gravelled paths.

The goal of 72 laps was surpassed during the day and an amazing total of 106 laps was recorded.

This well organised event ran smoothly throughout thanks to great organisational skills of Shane O’Brien and Enda Kivlehan. We would like to thank both organisers, all the persons who supported the event in various ways, all who took on the challenge and especially everyone who has donated. Thank you so much. The donation link is still open and available on our social media platforms.
